麥巴來山，位大霸西北稜霞山、石鹿大山連稜之西面，日據時期為伐木產區，1960年代更沿舊木馬道開闢羅山林道南北線，以卡車運材，目前則以人造杉木林為主，沿途多為厚軟的柳杉落葉步道。若選擇單攻麥巴來山，單程約5K落差1050公尺幾乎是一路陡上，山友俗稱「麥擱來」。

Tucked away in the highlands of Hualien and Nantou, the Maibala Trail (麥巴來古道) is one of Taiwan’s lesser-known yet culturally rich cross-mountain routes. Once a vital passageway for the Bunun and Atayal peoples, this trail served as a lifeline — connecting villages, enabling trade, and linking family ties across rugged terrain.
During the Japanese occupation, it became part of the sentry road network (隘勇線) used for mountain patrol and surveillance. Today, it’s a quiet, mystical trail that offers both ecological beauty and deep cultural resonance.
