桶後越嶺古道起自烏來孝義村，沿桶後溪向東偏南而行，至烘爐地山與小礁溪山間之鞍部越過雪山山脈至宜蘭的礁溪，全長6.8公里，與哈盆越嶺、福巴越嶺三條古道並列為烏來山區泰雅族人打獵遷移的三大重要古道，也是少數全程有溪流作伴的山徑，沿途隨處可下切溪谷，親水性極高。
