Routes

Alongside Spain’s Camino de Santiago, Kumano Kodo is one of only two pilgrimage routes in the world designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This sacred network of ancient trails winds through the lush mountains of Japan’s Kii Peninsula, connecting the Three Grand Shrines of Kumano — Kumano Hongu Taisha, Kumano Nachi Taisha, and Kumano Hayatama Taisha.
Over a thousand years ago, emperors, aristocrats, and monks undertook the long and challenging journey from Kyoto to Kumano, believing this to be the land where the gods dwell — a spiritual quest to seek renewal, peace, and divine connection.
