鳥嘴山泰雅族人稱之為「北得拉曼」(ptlaman)，為試試看之意，是族人傳統狩獵的區域，視此區域為「聖域」。此區發現四棵巨木合稱為「北得拉曼神木群」，是全台海拔最低的紅檜巨木群，林務局修建了北得拉曼國家步道，使得遊客可親近神木一窺巨碩的英姿。
