Routes

Jialuo Shrine – A Forgotten Spirit of the Forest
Deep within the misty forests of Jialuo Mountain, hidden among towering cypress trees, lies the Jialuo Shrine (加羅神社)—a quietly decaying relic from Taiwan’s Japanese colonial era.
Originally built by the Japanese to honor mountain guardians and to solidify control over indigenous Atayal territories, this once-sacred Shinto shrine now stands in ruins, reclaimed by nature. Stone lanterns are covered in moss, and broken torii gates whisper stories of the past.
To reach it, you’ll hike through the enchanting Jialuo Trail, a route filled with ferns, filtered sunlight, and a mystical air—as if the forest itself is watching over the land.
Few places in Taiwan feel as sacred, remote, and hauntingly beautiful as Kaluo Shrine.
It’s not just a destination—it’s a time capsule.
